Chemo-resistant liver cancer cleared in a 3-year-old after two cell infusions

Doctors at Texas Children's Hospital and Baylor College of Medicine reprogrammed the boy's own T cells to target GPC3 and gave two outpatient infusions eight weeks apart; his hepatoblastoma, which had survived three lines of chemotherapy and surgery, went into complete remission and he has been cancer-free for a year with no severe side effects. This is one patient in a phase 1 trial, not a standard of care — but it shows a resistant solid tumour clearing entirely under cell therapy (NEJM, 10 September 2026).
