Reading Reform Stagnates as a Parallel Scientific Approach Starts in Mathematics

Although evidence-based policies in reading instruction have been widely implemented, national achievement data remain limited; a similar scientific approach is emerging as 18 states enact structured mathematics statutes. However, this new reform risks repeating the challenges faced by reading reform due to divided views on curriculum philosophy and implementation uncertainties.
